Awarded Annually to Class with
Highest Picnic Attendance.

History of the Perpetual Picnic Trophy

The winner of the 2010 Picnic Trophy is the class of TBD

By Barb Raymond, HP 57

In summer 2001, I bought this plain, beat up, old and scratched “golden” trophy at the Goldenwest College swap meet. I paid 50 cents for it!

I thought it would be fun to award a trophy at our first Picnic to the class with the greatest attendance. And thus, the tradition began.

In 2001, for the first HPHSAA Picnic, the trophy went home with class of 49 as they had the greatest attendance that year.

Since that time, other classes have won and embellishments have been added, including a very nice base with engraving.

Tradition says that each winning class is to add something to the trophy and bring it back for the following year. Today there are pennies glued to the base representing each class year that has won.

Thanks to loving care, our trophy looks quite handsome compared to its appearance at the swap meet in 2001. And as with all Spartans everywhere, our friendships and our trophy become more and more “beautiful” with each passing year.
